Festival List: Diwali date 2023: Festival season is going on now. Navratri is now over. And now in a few days Diwali festivities will begin. Diwali is the main festival of the year. In our country Diwali is celebrated with great pomp. Diwali is preceded and followed by many Hindu festivals. Since all these festivals fall according to the tithi, it becomes necessary to know which festival falls on which date.

November month of English calendar is about to start. This month of November is considered very important for fasting and festivals. Many major festivals including Karva Choth, Dhanteras, Diwali, Gujarati New Year, Bastu Varsha, Chhath Puja fall in the month of November. According to the Hindu Panchang, the month of November starts from the Chaturthi date of Kartak Krishna Paksha (Hindi month).

Following is the list of festivals coming in the month of November.

  • Dhan Teras, Dhanvantari Jayanti: Diwali festivities begin with Dhan Teras. Dhan Teras is on November 10 this year. On this day, Lord Dhanvantari, who is called the physician of the gods, is worshipped. Along with this, the goddess of wealth, Lakshmi, is also worshiped on the day of Dhan Teras.
  • Kali Chaudash: Narak Chaturdashi is dedicated to Yama. This day is also celebrated as Chhoti Diwali. This day is celebrated as Kali Chaudas in Gujarat.
  • Diwali: Diwali means festival of lights is considered to be the most important. Diwali is on November 12 this year. According to our mythology, on this day Lord Shri Rama returned to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile, in whose happiness this festival of Deepotsava is celebrated with pomp.
  • Somvati Amas: This year there will be a gap of 1 day between Diwali and Bastu. As this day is Somvati Amas, married women fast on this day to wish their husbands good fortune and long life.
  • Bastu Varsha, Nutan Varsha: According to the Gujarati calendar, the new year begins with Kartak Sud Ekam. This year Bastu Bhan or New Year date is on November 14. So Gujarati people celebrate New Year on this day. Govardhan Puja is also performed on this day in North Gujarat. Govardhan Puja is a major Hindu festival. On this day, Lord Krishna broke the pride of Indra by lifting Govardhan mountain.
Bhaibij: The festival of Bhaibij is celebrated on the second day of the bistu year. Bhai Bij date is 15 November. On this day, sisters celebrate the festival of Bhai Bija with wishes for long life of their brothers. On this day sisters make govardhan from cow dung in ponds and streets.
