Dear Teachers, With the aim of expanding computer literacy very fast, the Government of Gujarat should provide up-to-date commuter resources to more than 6000 subsidized schools in the state under the ICT @ School program. As part of the new policy, all schools have been provided with the Ubundu (similar to Linux) operating system and other freely available (open source) software, so that they can use the software freely as well as exchange it without the hassle of licensing.
Were written for proprietary software, so there was a need to re-create textbooks based on the new curriculum. This was also very necessary as 8th standard was transferred to primary department. Hence, a new syllabus for standard 9 to 12 based on the freely available operating system and corresponding software tools for various subjects for computer study was provided in phases.
This 9th standard textbook is the first in a series of 'Pigeon-Study' subjects, which include a basic knowledge of computer, an introduction to the freely available Ubundu operating system, an OpenOffice word processor called Writer, Impress for presentation and search for information on the Internet, e-mail, file download Etc. In addition, the aim is to provide information about the concept of security.
In later years an attempt has been made to lay a solid foundation for students to learn subjects other than freely accessible software. Needless to say, there is no presumption that students will have a prior knowledge of commuters. We hope that the topics covered will be useful for students and that you will enjoy learning the commuter subject using the freely available, Ubundu operating system. Dear student friends, We believe that, for the first time, you are learning computer-based computer-based study subjects based on freely available software.
