● New Delhi: The central government has taken a big decision to open vehicles in the country.  Union Roads, Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that India will be free from tolls and obstacles in the coming year.  Gadkari on Thursday said the government would finalize the GPS (Global Positioning System) for this.  The Union Minister said that in the next two years, vehicle tolls will be deducted only from your linked bank account.

● He said at an event at industry body Assocham that work was underway on a GPS system for tolls, in which toll payments would be automatically deducted at travel distances.  "With the help of the Russian government, we will soon finalize the GPS system," Gadkari said.

● After this, in 2 years India will be completely toll free.  Notably, at this time all commercial vehicles in the country are equipped with a tracking system.  At the same time, the government will work quickly to install GPS system technology in all older vehicles.  Over the past one year, the central government has made Fastag mandatory on all toll plazas in the country, which are doing important work towards free movement of vehicles.  Following Fastag's imperative, fuel consumption has come down and, in addition, pollution has been brought under control.  The use of fast fasteg has grown rapidly over the past few months.  According to an NHAI statement released in November, Fastag has contributed about three-quarters of the total toll collection so far.

At the same time, it was Rs 92 crore as against Rs 70 crore a year ago.  Gadkari said, "Yesterday, in the presence of the Chairman of Road Transport and Highways and NHAI, a presentation was made using GPS technology for toll collection. We expect our toll revenue to be Rs 1,34,000 crore in the next five years."
